Anyone know where we stand with our cap this year, how much of the $36 mil we covered this year and how much we have to cover next year? Do we have anyone we can cut to free up cap room to sign a RT or CB so we can draft the other next year in the 2nd round?
We have 2 players up for a new contract - F. Davis and Orakpo. Are we going to be too tight to sign a few OL?
Thanks |

So, how much of the $36 mil did we cover this year?
I know we had to cover $18 but I believe we covered more than that. |

The Cap page is actually showing $4.285M more than what the team has available.

They are $5,405,685 under the Cap

The Redskins took a $18,553,000 hit this year due to "CapGate", so roughly $17,447,000 is due next year

The Redskins have 38 players under contract for 2013 costing just under $100M in Cap space, assuming the cap stays the same ($120.6M) the Skins have about $4M in carryover, $18M due to close out capgate and $1.8M in dead money... that's basically a starting point of about $105,637,000 with $101,673,000 spent and 15 players short.
D. Hall's release would free up $8M in cap space and would less than $500K in dead money, S. Moss would free up $4.65M after $1.67M in dead money, L. Flecther would free up $4.8M with only $700K in dead money. reworking any of these players contract would free about 80% of what releasing them would and the dead money would be the same. I'm assuming J. Brown will be gone before any of theses guys which will save almost $2M in space but will take up almost $5M in dead money

Davis can be tagged again if the need to, if Davis signs it he'll make $6.48M next year, Orakpo is under contract for the 2013 season. |

| And if we could rework Cundiff's contract to be performance based, we could free up another $450,000 (1/4 of what he's making.) Maybe Gano should have been kept. |

Condiff only makes $540K this year and isn't under contract next year. As a vet with more than 4 years service he'll get his full salary regardless if they cut him or not.
Gano lacked confidence in Gano... that's why he's gone. Regardless what MS says was the reason for Condiff being brought in, it was Gano's lack of confidence that got him canned. Go back and listen to when MS would defend Gano and you'll see what I'm talking about... Shanny always called him a young kicker and talking about how they were trying to build his confidence. |

I've heard that said about Gano/Cundiff a few times on the radio this week. Word is that they like Cundiff because he's a little bit cocky. (Which is pretty hilarious after that performance on Sunday.)
That was a pretty sharp breakdown of the current cap numbers, 1niksder. Thanks! |

| I am all for releasing D. Hall at the end of the year. We can get someone just as good or better for a lot less. Either that or he should take the salary cut he suggested last year. |

Thanks a lot. If we don't spend the $5.4 mil in cap space this year won't that be applied to the $36 mil and reduce the $17.4 to $12?? |

Yes it will be carried over, I've been guesstimating a $4M carry over. |

This is based on the Redskins having a Adjusted Cap number of $117,137,000... According to PFT (whose numbers generally match mine during the season but be way off in the off season) I didn't make enough adjustments or missed something
So my adjusted answer to your question is....

Now to find out why/how they lost $1.237M that I didn't know about |
