I just spoke to my best friend who just had dinner with Matt Baldwin. For those that don't know him, he works with Bob LaMonte at Professional Sports Representation inc, who are the agents for Pat Shurmur, Mike Holmgren, Tom Heckert, Brad Childress, Mark Whipple etc. seeing a trend here?????? These dudes are tied in with the Browns BIG TIME.

Anyway, he told my buddy the Browns are ALL IN for RG3. The 22nd pick is a smoke screen and are prepared to offer much more. Not trying to stir the pot, just relaying what I'm hearing from some guys on the inside.

I hope we have the ammo because I think RG3 is the one we need to aquire.

Maybe, but think critically for a moment.

What would be the point of playing games with the 22 pick? They know that the only way to beat the Skins is to use that. I also doubt that professional agents... with nothing to gain... would be talking loosely about this. It's easy to be star struck by the names... and accept opinion as fact... The fact is, the Browns have the strongest hand, and know it. This isn't poker. There's no reason to be coy. Pretending to be disinterested isn't going to lull anyone to sleep. They know that Allen will force the price up if they don't go big. I don't know... I just don't see it.

Think about it... the only time professional agents talk out of school is usually to help someone blow smoke.... They are masters of Machiavellian manipulation.

I heard something similar only with Randy cross, the NFL analyst and former 49er who was on the radio 2 days ago. when asked about what qb is going where, without even being prompted he said well I know this, the kid from Baylor is going to Cleveland. they want him bad and are prepared (and I quote) to blow any competing offer out of the water.

when asked what do the redskins do, cross said he thinks they'll go with tannehill.

My buddy doesn't have any clout. Has no ties to the media, doesn't know anyone in the league. This is his good buddy that he went to dinner with. I don't think Matt is using my friend to blow smoke. I think it was a dinner conversation that turned to inside information that he gathered from his clients. Just like if you went to dinner with one of your buddies and he told you something in confidence. That's all I'm gonna say about it. again I'm not here to convince you how strong a scoop this is, not going to argue about what this guy knows. I know this is straight from Holmgren and Shurman's mouth, and I was just sharing some insider info.

Hope it proves to be false, but it doesn't sound like it if you knew the context of the conversation and who this guy is.

it doesn't even matter anyway. whichever QB we end up with, his ACLs will spontaneously explode the second he signs the last letter of his name on his contract. we're going to be doomed forever.

I plan to go back through every thread in here and find the people who said there was "no way under any circumstances that we could outbid the Browns".

Guess what? We just outbid the Browns.

I think it's pretty interesting to see all that was going on behind the scenes. This deal was done on Thursday apparently, which shows the Manning smoke was purely that. The Browns were all in for RG3. Apparently they had 2 1's this year and a 1st next year. We outbid them with an additional pick. I really think if we didn't make this trade, it would have set this franchise back another 10 years, so I don't care about the picks. This was important. The guy has the "it" factor. He's got moxie, he can throw, he can run, he is smart, he is disciplined, he can throw accurately on the run, and most importantly, he fits our system. You can see why both teams threw all in for him.

I'll save you some trouble. I said, repeatedly... if the Browns want RGIII, they will have him. Apparently, they did not want to part with the 22 pick... therefore, they did not want him as badly as the 'skins. I would stand by my statements. Had they been willing to part with both first round picks this year, their 2 this year, AND a first round pick NEXT year, that would have beat our offer, and they would have had him. They were not... and did not. Again, IF they wanted him, there would have been nothing we could do to stop them.

Reports are that they tried to offer more at the last moment but the deal had already been done.

c'mon guys - this is all good

we knew that this FO would find a way to get this done

we knew that the Browns would not go too high

we knew that this FO was going to get the last shot and make the deal

I'm sure the Browns would have liked to get RGIII but they were not going to beat Mike & Bruce in that race - NO WAY

this FO did a great deal that is a win/win for both franchises

there's a lot of good about this trade that can be analyzed - there's no point in trying to make it anything else

what a great trade for Redskins fans

As I have repeatedly said all along ... the Redskins absolutely needed to get a top tier QB now, and not miss this opportunity .... and if I recall correctly, I believe I said that I would personally offer 3 1's and throw in a 2 for good measure to get that deal done. Very Happy

If RG3 doesn't become a legit franchise QB ... even one 1 would be too much, BUT if he lives up to his potential, he'll be worth every single one of those picks without a doubt.

It was a great move ... it needed to be done ... and I think we'll look back on this and understand that top QB talents aren't cheap ... they aren't plentiful, and when you get an opportunity to get one, you have to do whatever it takes to seal the deal, and the rewards far outweigh the costs in the long run.

And it was a great move for the Rams too. It's a win/win.

Good call, Ray. And, I agree. I was pretty sure they'd get it done, too... I just didn't know how high the Browns would go. It appears they did up the offer, but too late.

I think it will be a good deal for the 'skins AND the Rams... The Redskins will now use free agency to fill some holes... surely we just became more attractive to some of the FA receivers... and may even find a way to recoup that 2nd round pick...
