Every year there are middle to late round selections, sometimes even UFA signings that become solid contributors and even starters. Too that end, I would like to profile some players who are known for their heart, intelligence, drive, leadership and plain old football savvy rather than their physical size, 40 times, bench reps or verticals.

Steve Justice - C - Wake Forest
Bryan Mattison - DE - Iowa
Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon
Tashard Choice - RB - Ga. Tech
Orlando Scandrick DB - Boise St.
Ezra Butler - ILB - Nevada
Jerome Felton - FB - Furman
Kenny Iwebema, DE, Iowa
Fernando Velasco - OL - Ga.
Jerome Simpson - WR - Coastal Carolina
Josh Thompsn - DT - Auburn
Nick Larkin - DE - Boston College

I'll try to find some anecdotal stuff on these players. Also, I invite anyone to post info on some small school players or under-sized players or locker room leaders who didn't clock well in the 40, who could ultimately make solid Redskin players out of middle to late round picks.

Um, there is one guy on that list that I really like. We've heard that the Skins will be interested in drafting a late round QB to groom as our 3rd string guy. Dennis Dixon would be an awesome addition in my opinion. He did blow out his ACL, but he is on a path to recovery and I heard he has been throwing already. He would certainly get plenty of time to recover if he came here. He was incredible at Oregon and I think he's got some potential.

I'm sure that Zorn & Cerrato will give that a lot of consideration - we are OK, not great with Collins as our back-up and I am sure (well I'm hoping)that a QB in waiting will be on the roster this year.

This draft is huge for our team and I like the fact that Cerrato has been "promoted" or at least identified as being in charge of our acquisitions. We will be adding 9 (hopefully more Laughing ) young players to our squad here. IF we do not end up with at least 5 really, really good guys then Cerrato and his bunch should be fired.

I understand it takes 3+ years to really determine how a draft went but if we do not end up with at least 5 of these guys on this team in August, then Cerrato needs to give it up OR Snyder should remove him because this is way too big an opportunity to blow and he and his bunch have had a lot of time to find the players that can help this team.

I think Dixon is projected to go in the 4th or 5th. So it is possible we could get him. Of course, with his upside is there, so wouldn't be surprised if a team took him higher.

Small school, but big potential. he does not have break away speed but has huge hands (11") and great leaping ability. Is a hard worker, good blocker, good hands, decent speed and size, tough player and knows how to get open. Sounds like a good Wr for Zorn and likely available in the late 2nd to 3rd round. I really like this guy if we can get him as an undrafted FA. They can say he's slow, but he always finds the ball. Would be great depth and special teamer.

another kid from VT that I would give a look but, but nothing higher than a 6 rd. I believe he will be a FA because he didn't get the opps the other receivers did. The things they say about this guy are awfully similar to what they said about Ernest Wilford.

This guy is just too quick and shifty in the open field to not at least bringing in. He has decent hands and could turn into a good slot guy to replace ARE in a couple years. This guy is electric in the return game.

Here's a link where they're talking about Harper as a sleeper:

How about another Monk wearing a Skins jersey?

I have a new Skins prediction:

1st (21) - Mayo LB
2nd (51) - Nelson WR

This is partially wishful thinking, but I've watched some game tape of Mayo (Bowl game which I hadn't previously seen) and think he will likely be the most talented player on the board at #21. I know the Skins may draft for need and reach for a lesser talented DL or WR. BUT, it is obvious there is more value at WR in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. The money you'll pay a WR after picking him #21 is too much when you consider there are a handful of WR's that could EASILY be more productive out of the 2nd and 3rd rounds. If the Skins realize this, then they may start thinking, 'if we can't trade down, let's just get the most talent for the money at #21'. If they do, I think it will either be Mayo or an OL (Otah or Williams could slip to #21). Given that Mayo can play inside or outside gives some nice versatility since London and Marcus aren't getting younger and McIntosh is rehabbing an injury.

I'm big on Nelson and I think the Skins are too. Let's hope he lasts until our 2nd round pick.

Mayo highlights - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWLgYKi3JoA

If Mayo is gone before 21, another player who could slip down the boards a little is Talib. I think Cromartie, McKelvin and Jenkins will go first and Talib might slip because of some small off the field issues and he's one of 4 CB's that are all mid-first round talents. Also thinking Minnesota might snag Merling at 17.

Nebraska had a pretty good reciever Maurice Purify, but he's 6'3 so he doesn't qualify. Believe he was not the reason they sucked it was the D.

Maryland's own Joey Hanos. Great reciever for a TE and I meet him and know some of his family really good guy, great character, and a very hard worker.

But we need a WR, not a TE.
