Lets be honest with ourselves: this isn't our year. We still need to build. Stop being impatient. Don't allow impatience to stop the progress the team is making.

Yes, because fans' impatience kills the team's progress.

This is from the Steeler Post Game Thread:

Its clear that we could've used that 4th round pick to shore up some of our glaring weaknesses on D. Why Shanahan, why did you draft someone who is riding our bench when we had so many other holes to fill??? Its clear RGIII needs more help...this move is an indictment on Shanahan's GM capabilities...

I listed the 4th round defensive guys for you (I didn't include the picks before Cousins because they were not available. Which guys would have helped us out against Pittsburgh yesterday?

102. Washington Redskins - Kirk Cousins, QB, Michigan State
103. Carolina Panthers - Frank Alexander, DE, Oklahoma
105. Buffalo Bills - Nigel Bradham, LB, Florida State
109. Pittsburgh Steelers - Alameda Ta'amu, DT, Baylor
113. Dallas Cowboys - Kyle Wilber, OLB, Wake Forest
114. Seattle Seahawks - Jaye Howard, DT, Florida
115. Tennessee Titans - Coty Sensabaugh, CB, Clemson
119. Washington Redskins - Keenan Robinson, OLB, Texas
120. Cleveland Browns - James-Michael Johnson, MLB, Nevada
123. Philadelphia Eagles - Brandon Boykin, CB, Georgia
124. Buffalo Bills - Ron Brooks, CB, LSU
125. Detroit Lions - Ronnell Lewis, DE/OLB, Oklahoma
126. Houston Texans - Jared Crick, DT, Nebraska
129. Oakland Raiders - Miles Burris, OLB, San Diego State
130. Baltimore Ravens - Christian Thompson, S, South Carolina State
132. Green Bay Packers - Mike Daniels, DT, Iowa
133. Green Bay Packers - Jerron McMillian, S, Maine
135. Dallas Cowboys - Matt Johnson, S, Eastern Washington

I left off offensive players because you wrote about the "glaring" weaknesses of the defense. After reading your post again, you said RGIII needs more help.

The one offensive 4th rounder that I thought would be a better pick than Cousins was Bobbie Massie, 4th round Cardinals. I remember during the draft several THNers thought Massie was a good pick and he probably will be some day, but let's look and see if he would be helping RGIII today.

Quote:
Batiste and Massie aren't the only ones culpable for the poor protection, but they have yielded 22 of the 35 sacks, according to profootballfocus.com.

It was clear early that Massie needed seasoning, but the Cardinals had no choice but to play him after the injuries to Brown and Bridges.

No, Massie is not better than Polumbus right now.
Is Massie any better than Tom Compton drafted in the 6th round by Shanny? Right now, we can't say that either.

You really shouldn't have removed the picks between, because had we not taken Cousins, they would have all been available with his pick.

Fixed and added the link for the 4th round. Thanks, Dead!

Can we trade him for some help on D??? its clear he is a waste of a 4th round pick riding our bench. horrible pick given we had so many other holes to fill...

Would you rather have just one more body in the defensive backfield unable to hold things together? Because that's all a 4th round pick on D was likely to get us. You rightly point out that the team went for the highest value at the time, but it also addressed a need. We've already seen how easy it is for RGIII to miss time.

Trading Cousins now would be the worst of both worlds. We'd be spending a semi-valuable pick on a long-term project and then selling it off right away for probably the lowest price we'll ever get for him. A terrible idea on more than one level.

Agreed. I would not trade Kirk now.

However, Are we sure that no good secondary player was available at that point?

Our starting GREAT RB was picked at a LATE round after all. It is a rhetorical question. No, I would not trade KC now. No matter how desperate we feel. Let the investment pay in due time.

We could have gotten this guy in the 4th round instead of Cousins

Quote:
Ta’amu was charged with 15 different crimes, including felony charges of fleeing police, aggravated assault while driving drunk and three counts of aggravated assault for trying to hit police officers with his car.

109. Pittsburgh Steelers - Alameda Ta'amu, DT, Baylor

So far, no one has come up with a guy taken in the 4th round that is worth more than Cousins.

I'm glad we have Kirk Cousins - he's going to be "a good value" pick when we look back at this draft
