Cooley turns 26 this July and you're already planning his retirement? Jesus, let's talk about what implications this can have THIS year, not next decade.

LoL, I thought the FO did good on this draft. I still can't believe we got Kelly and Thomas. It's looking good on the offensive side so far. The D was fine last year, well serviceable anyway. The draft was just thin on talent (on D )by the time we get to pick.

I am just saying that because I believe Davis has a bright future in the NFL and I hope it forces us to re-sign this guy. About the inmediate future, i think he can contribute in packages with 2 TEs, west coast style.

The TE position has evolved a little and Cooley is really more of a H-Back - this guy is a TE and hopefully he can make the team as he was obviously brought in at that pick to be a part of the team BUT he is not a potential relacement for Cooley because they play different positions - most likely Zorn, Cerrato and his bunch saw something here that they wanted. Laughing Word is this guy could become a very good TE Wink

I really am very pleased that these guys stayed with their plan and used all 10 picks - we will be a better team in the long run if we end up with 5 to 6 of these guys on the team and some could even start this season Shocked

Cooley was a TE when he came out of college. Gibbs converted him to the H-Back position because Gibbs had no TE in his playbook. I have seen Davis play a couple time at USC and have talked to him once. I will be very surprised, shocked even, if he does not make the team. He will not replace Cooley but will be a compliment to him. Davis is a converted WR because he was not fast enough for USC's offense in the WR slot. He has good hands. He is a well grounded young man.. He will remind you of James Thrash in his demeanor and work ethic.

All in all, I am satisfied with the Redskins draft picks. I think they did as well as they could given what they had to work with. I am looking forward to the coming season for several reasons. Foremost is to see what Zorn produces. He reminds me a lot of Joe Gibbs when he first came to the Redskins. Like Gibbs, Zorn has quietly gone about the job of getting ready for the season. He is getting things in order, so to speak.

I am a Hawk fan 1st, but when I was a kid Gibbs and watching the old Redskins play, John Riggins, Mark Rypien Also a former Coug and allike.

With Zorn and in this draft your looking at a guy who will bring in quality not only on the field but off the field as well. That was and is the number one rule with the Hawks.

Zorn will make your QB's better and make your offence a west coast style that will be high flying...Maybe closer to a Rams than a traditional west coast style like Seattle has...

Go! Skins and GO! Zorn See you all in the play offs....

Huh? When has Gibbs ever NOT had a TE in his playbook? Did you mean to say, Gibbs didn't feature a TE as a prominent pass receiver in his playbook?

Anyhoo, I think this whole TE discussion is much like the vaunted WCO topic. Semantics mostly. At the end of the day, Cooley can play TE or H-back quite well, and has played mostly TE these past years, again quite well. The only difference between the two is whether or not they line up on the line or not. Same basic duties, just separated by a yard or two in position. So it really comes down to what name you give them in the program. If Davis becomes as good as we hope he can be, then he is another weapon we can use.

How would you like to be a defense playing against a balanced offense that runs and passes equally well, has deep speed and possession size at WR, has two TE's that move around everywhere and you never know whether to plant your feet to try and shed off their run block or get on your toes to turn and chase them down the seam? Laughing Laughing Laughing There is reason to be excited.

Gibbs featured two tight ends, Don Warren and Clint Didier. Didier wasn't chopped liver as a pass receiver.

Didier was my 3rd favorite player in that era (behind #81 and #28 ).

I don't see TE as having changed much overall, it depends more on the team & coaches how a TE is used. Some teams have always used TE as receivers (remember Jerry Smith?) Other teams more as blockers. I think Davis's style is a lot like Cooley. He's a good player, just a strange pick for us.

Since we have threads dedicated to the players the Redskins did (and did not) draft, I am closing this one, thanks to everyone who participated for abiding by the rules and making things easy. Thumbs Up
