Buzz Up PrintCLEMSON, S.C. (AP)—Clemson defensive end Phillip Merling worked out Thursday for more than two dozen NFL scouts, team officials and even Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder.

Merling is expected to be among the top defensive linemen taken in Saturday’s NFL draft. He had a groin injury and had not been able to work before Thursday. He spent about 25 minutes showing off his agility and speed.

Merling led the Tigers with seven sacks last year and helped Clemson to a 9-4 record.

Good thing we had The Danny out there evaluating personnel. His career as an advertising executive should have provided him with invaluable preparation for that role.

Could have just been a smoke screen to help drum up interest in trade partners.
